Virtual try-on for fashion stores: what it does, and what it does not

A shopper looking at a dress on your product page has one question the photos cannot answer: how will this look on me? Virtual try-on answers it with the shopper's own photo. Here is how it works in Mira, where it helps, and where it stops.

How it works

  1. The shopper taps Try it on, next to Add to cart on the products you choose.
  2. They add one photo. Full body and good light work best.
  3. Mira renders the piece on them, in their own photo, in seconds.
  4. The same photo works for every product that has try-on, so the next piece is one tap away.

What a shopper actually gets

A preview. Colour against their skin, the cut and length on their frame, how the piece sits with the way they already dress. It is the part of a fitting room you can bring to a product page: the moment someone looks in the mirror and decides whether they like it.

What it is not

Try-on is a picture, not a measurement. It does not tell a shopper which size to order, and it does not promise how a piece will fit. Keep your size guide on the product page. Treat try-on as the step that helps someone decide whether the piece suits them, and the size guide as the step that helps them order the right one.

Which products work

Clothing with clear product images works best. You pick the collections where try-on appears, and Mira checks every product in them and marks it eligible or not. When a product is not eligible, Mira tells you why, so you can fix the image or leave it out. The setup guide walks through it.

Shopper photos and privacy

A photo of a person is sensitive, and shoppers know it. This is how Mira handles one:

  • Shoppers agree to a consent notice before their first photo. Your store cannot switch it off.
  • Shoppers must be 18 or older.
  • The photo and the try-on images made from it are deleted 12 hours after upload.
  • Photos are used only to render that shopper's try-ons. They are not sold, not used for advertising and not used to train AI.
  • Mira does not identify people from their photos.
  • Images are stored in Frankfurt, Germany (EU).

The full detail is in our privacy policy.

The question after "does it suit me"

Once a shopper likes the piece, they ask what to wear it with. Mira includes a stylist that answers by text or voice, in English or Arabic. It searches your catalogue, compares options, starts try-ons and adds to cart, so the answer is always something you sell.

Measure it on your own store

Your Mira dashboard shows how many shoppers tried pieces on, what they added to cart afterwards, the sales from items added through Mira, and the sales lift Mira measures. Those are your numbers, from your shoppers, which beats any figure from someone else's store.

Mira runs on Shopify, custom storefronts and mobile apps. Shopify stores get a 14-day free trial. See pricing or the Shopify setup guide.
